Biography
Dr. Maxwell M. Chait completed his MD degree from the University of California School of Medicine at San Francisco. He is a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a practicing gastroenterologist and assistant professor of medicine Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His practice interests include gastroenterology, gastrointestinal endoscopy and internal medicine. He has authored numerous publications in reputed journals. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Liver Disease and Transplantation and serves on the editorial board of of several international journals including the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Biography
Graduated in Medicine from the School of Medicine / Unifesp in 1970 and at the same institution attended residency in Pediatrics (1971-1973). Still, in 1973 he specialized in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Hospital Nacional Profesor Alejandro Posadas in Buenos Aires. He completed the master's degree in Pediatric Gastroenterology by the Brazilian Institute of Studies and Gastroenterology Research in 1977 and obtained two doctoral titles Paulista School of Medicine in the areas of Paediatrics and Gastroenterology, respectively in 1977 and 1979. Conducted postdoctoral research at North Shore University Hospital, based in New York and affiliated with Cornell University Medical College (1977-1979). In 1988 he became a professor of the discipline of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Department of Paediatrics, Unifesp. Since 1996 is editor in chief of Electronic Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition, and Liver Diseases, as well as creator and editor blog: http://gastropedinutri.blogspot.com. He is a member of the editorial board of the following journals: Revista Paulista of Paediatrics, the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and files. As a representative elected by the Latin American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, joined the Executive Council of the Federation of International Societies for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition from August 2000 to August 2008. He was president of the 3rd World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, held in Foz do Iguaçu, in August 2008. Between 2003 and 2008 he served as dean of the Unifesp, having previously held the vice-rector of the same institution (1999-2003). In the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, operates in subspecialties such as environmental enteropathy, celiac disease, food allergy and Escherichia coli.
